Time has come!

The recent horrifying and gory incidents have rudely jolted us to the harsh realities of life brought about by the perverted beings of our society. It makes our heads to hang in shame at the dastardly acts of these way ward youths and to think that they go scot free after a year or two makes my blood to boil. What civilization do we live in, which is devoid of sensitivity and compassion? The law makers and enforcers are making merry without a shadow of responsibility towards the afflicted society. The moral turpitude has worsened with time; lewdness, debauchery and perversion prevail in every city, town and village. It transcends caste, creed, religion and state and is all pervasive like a malady that has destroyed the fabric of life.

Every other minute, a rape or molestation happen in our country, some are reported while most of them go unnoticed because of the stigma attached to the victim by the cruel society. The wicked nation glorifies the perpetrators and shames the victim more often than not, the cases are stifled either by the crooked politicians or by the goondas or by the family of the victim themselves owing to societal pressure.The life of the girl is ruined and reaches a point of no return. The vicious wrong doer instead of cooling his heels behind bars will be kicking up his heels and celebrating in the bars!!!

The most productive and persuasive tools to combat this reign of terror are many but I shall highlight the best among them:

• Fresh laws to be enacted

Do away with the obsolete laws and bring in fresh laws that are in accordance with the changing times and ensure that the laws are enforced in full capacity. There must be loop holes in the laws that allow the culprits to get away.  For this we require the wholehearted support of the elected leaders who need to be convinced of their moral responsibility towards the society.

• Victims to come out of the chained culture

Anybody who is a sufferer to this inglorious act must be courageous to come out in the open and file a case in the nearest police station. The family and friends must be a pillar of support and have the audaciousness to catch the culprit and not get cowed down by the gory incident.

• We the citizens

The society has a huge say in the responsibility and the citizens must have the strong will to educate the boys and girls on this tabooed subject so as to make them aware and be wary of the threats.

• The world wide web

The influx of internet and social media into our everyday lives has brought in along with the good things, a host of ideas that are lapped up by these unlawful creatures and they use the vulnerable as preys to their hunting. Let us all send out strong messages that no more will this lovely civilization of ours take it lying down and time has come…   Amnesty International has launched the #KnowYourRights campaign, which is a people’s rights educational program aimed at informing people of their basic rights via free educational modules on digital and physical media because knowing one’s rights gives one the confidence to take action

Time has come to give a shoulder of support to these hapless victims of lust and desire. Today if it is Nirbhaya, tomorrow it could be your daughter. It should begin with each and every one of us to fight this malice. I will not hesitate to help someone in distress and will always be a whistle blower against all crimes even if I have to pay with my life. I have to stand up to the crimes happening around me and be a harbinger to herald saner times
